Her Story

Like many Acupuncturists, Jacqueline was first introduced to Chinese Medicine through personal experience at the age of 15.

After slipping on her back at the ski hill, she sustained a complete spiral fracture injury to her left humerus which required emergency orthopaedic surgery and permanent metal implants (that is her post-op x-ray!). After being in a cast for a month, her arm muscles had atrophied and range of motion was lost at her elbow joint; it was locked at a 90 degree angle.

Numerous attempts at typical injury rehabilitation yielded no improvements in range of motion and she was devastated. After a few weeks, another practitioner suggested she try Acupuncture.

Immediately following the first treatment, the range of motion in her elbow improved about 50 percent; it was unbelievable! After the second treatment, it could reach full extension and rehabilitation finally begun. She quickly healed and played sports competitively up to the varsity level at Vancouver Island University, where in her final year the team won the CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship in 2012 (the photo is their moment of victory).

However...

Years later, she began experiencing neuropathy around the metal implant that radiated down her arm to her hand. During active "flare-ups" she would lose strength in her hand, had extreme skin sensitivity and excruciating pain. She couldn't sleep, exercise or work due to the severity of the symptoms. It took multiple tests and visits to various specialists over years to finally diagnose it as nerve pain and the only immediate relief was through pharmaceutical medication. However, it would flare-up again at any given time. The thought of the pain becoming chronic was soul-crushing.

The Good News: she is thrilled to report that since starting her education as an Acupuncturist and receiving treatments since in 2016, the pain has not returned and she has been able to maintain the active lifestyle that she loves! No flare ups and no medication. Chinese Medicine has also helped her tremendously in regards to mental health, dysmenorrhea and understanding herself on a deeper and more holistic level.
